I have emerged it : root:508 log> eix nouveau [I] x11-drivers/xf86-video-nouveau Available versions: 1.0.15 1.0.15-r1 Installed versions: 1.0.15-r1([2018-07-26 15:39:37]) Homepage: https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/ Description: Accelerated Open Source driver for nVidia cards I have tried to switch to it with 'eselect opengl set xorg-x11' : root:507 log> eselect opengl list Available OpenGL implementations: [1] nvidia [2] xorg-x11 * I have renamed /lib/udev/rules.d/99-nvidia.rules by appending '.dft', as recommended in the Wiki. But when I 'startx' & then check /var/log/Xorg.0.log , I find : (II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation" compiled for 1.19.5, module version = 1.0.0 ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 10.0 (II) LoadModule: "nvidia" (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so (II) Module nvidia: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation" compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.0 Module class: X.Org Video Driver (II) NVIDIA dlloader X Driver 390.67 Fri Jun 1 02:45:19 PDT 2018 (II) NVIDIA Unified Driver for all Supported NVIDIA GPUs (--) using VT number 7 I suspect that I need to re-merge some pkgs ; I have added 'nouveau' to VIDEO_CARDS in make.conf , but it won't have an effect until a pkg is re-merged. Can anyone offer advice what to try next ? BTW the Wiki entry for 'nouveau' seems a bit out-of-date. -- ========================,,============================================ SUPPORT ___________//___, Philip Webb ELECTRIC /] [] [] [] [] []| Cities Centre, University of Toronto TRANSIT `-O----------O---' purslowatchassdotutorontodotca
