In unstable systems mysql-5.5.32 borks akonadi->kdepim and amarok:

I was about to have another rant about KDE4 and its hardwired semantic 
database design concept, but this won't help any.  ;-)

So, have you tried postgresql?

Adding /usr/lib/mysql to /etc/ld.so.conf and running ldconfig, as I read here 



did it for me.

Adding /usr/lib/mysql to /etc/ld.so.conf and running ldconfig, as I read here:

It's also worth pointing out that this doesn't only affect KDE. It breaks
a lot of programs that use libmysql* - motion failed here.
