At least on server grade hardware > everything I've ever bought just works, but I can't comment on desktop > hardware. I've flirted with Slackware before I came over to Gentoo and the reason I=20 chose Gentoo is because it gave me more freedom to built and configure an O= S=20 exactly as I wanted it. I was at the time thinking of trying BSD with=20 portage, but when I was keeping an eye on it there was this start/stop=20 development as Alan mentions and loads of packages were unstable for yonks = or=20 missing completely. This made me decide to stay on Linux. I don't think we should give up completely yet. Perhaps we need to lobby a= =20 bit more effectively (Can we email directly the dev(s)? Where do they live?= =20 Ha, ha!) PS. Dale please don't leave! There'll be no mammoth threads without you a= nd=20 who are we going to rely to trash the credibility of packages - HAL springs= to=20 mind! Come to think of it, given HAL's demise can you also please have a g= o=20 at udev? You never know ... ;) =2D-=20 Regards, Mick --nextPart3744247.YuIlZl71yI Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.17 (GNU/Linux) iEYEABECAAYFAk5rOs8ACgkQVTDTR3kpaLajsgCePLEIEeRuZumZ+2lJEOhvu9P2 apIAn1Wdvj0MUxvt+uuJ+JO6KVeE0Q+U =t1WW -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart3744247.YuIlZl71yI--
