I just wanted to say that it _can_ be easy. When I installed my system, I knew I would need an initramfs, and while I knew what that is, I did not know how to set it up. But then I thought about trying genkernel, which I never used before, and it worked very well. I did not have to care about the details. Instead of make bzImage modules modules_install and copying the results to /boot, I use the genkernel command, and that's it. > > I don't get this one. Dale, if you want to avoid the initramfs, what about moving large stuff like /usr/src to another location and symlinking it? That's a hack, but a small one compared to what an initramfs is :) Wonko
