The benefits were immediate: - we didn't lose the functioning desktop we didn't use - I/O throughput improved - maintenance simplified - KISS, we now have traditional Unix systems that work how we want them to - we need real Unix sysadmins so all the one-day wonders who attended Red Hat seminars went back to the Windows division - you get all the good parts of a binary distro (a maintained ready-built base) plus all the good parts of portage (from ports) -- Alan McKinnnon alan.mckinnon@gmail.com
