Modules gets installed into the wrong directory I'm not sure how red my face sb (smile): that was the answer, but the cause of the awkward situation was a kernel bug which I reported & which has still not been responded to by any of the kernel buggers. To test the bug, I installed the vanilla sources & had not restored the symlink to my normal Gentoo sources dir. If only the Universe would unfold in nice straight lines ...
