Thank you. This didn't work. Please see:

# USE="-X" emerge -av net-dialup/rp-pppoe

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "x11-libs/gdk-
pixbuf:2[X,introspection?,jpeg?,jpeg2k?,tiff?]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/gdk-pixbuf-2.22.1 (Change USE: +X)
(dependency required by "x11-libs/gtk+-2.22.1-r1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-dialup/ppp-2.4.4-r25[gtk]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-dialup/rp-pppoe-3.8-r2" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-dialup/rp-pppoe" [argument])

So I add X to /etc/portage/package.use and

# USE="-X" emerge -av net-dialup/rp-pppoe

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy ">=x11-
libs/cairo-1.6[X,svg]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/cairo-1.10.2-r1 (Change USE: +X)
(dependency required by "x11-libs/gtk+-2.22.1-r1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-dialup/ppp-2.4.4-r25[gtk]" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-dialup/rp-pppoe-3.8-r2" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-dialup/rp-pppoe" [argument])

I switch to profile desktop.
# eselect profile set 2

....
 [2] default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop *
....

and the same this didin't work. So I switch to default

# eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
  [1] default/linux/x86/10.0 *

and then work. I suspect that, the handbook should be changed or warning about
this issue if someone need to install "desktop" or "kde" profile with:
"net-dialup/rp-pppoe".

# emerge -av net-dialup/rp-pppoe

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] net-dialup/ppp-2.4.4-r25 USE="ipv6 pam -activefilter -atm -
dhcp -eap-tls -gtk -mppe-mppc -radius" 727 kB
[ebuild N ] net-dialup/rp-pppoe-3.8-r2 USE="-X" 880 kB

Total: 2 packages (2 new), Size of downloads: 1,607 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] y

Greetings,
Andrzej
