Ripping is the easy part since you don't want to bother with encoding. In my opinion, you should had a udev line that fire up a mencoder/transcode/vlc/vobcopy/ session, clean the swap and then eject the CD. The udev manpage is quite clear on the subject, examples are all around the net.
