We also have bug 256608 which has been around for some time: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3D256608 In that case, MAKEOPTS=3D-j1 emerge gcc should do the trick. But that one has been fixed in 4.4.2 (Don't remember if it was in 4.4.1)
