I am running a diskless Mythtv frontend client.
Everything is working great accept it will not shutdown.
It goes through all the steps of shutting down successfully including
remounting any remaining file systems read only.
But it never issues the power down command.
Yes acpi is setup correctly.
The runlevels look the same as all the other machines I have.
Anybody have any idea what actually issues the power down command or
where to even start looking ?

I've seen buggy motherboards and/or bioses behave this way. But check
your kernel config. Might also try some different BIOS settings and see
if that helps.

Not much to try in the bios. The kernel config is correct and I have
tried about every combination possible just for kicks.
It use to work with a hard disk all the time. When I first changed it
to diskless it worked when it felt like it. But now it never works
doesn't even seem to try.
Could be the kernel I changed to 2.6.30.1 not to long ago but I need
that version so can't go back.

Just in case anybody else runs into this the problem is in /etc/inittab
The following line should be changed:

l0s:0:wait:/sbin/halt -dhip

to this:

l0s:0:wait:/sbin/halt -dhp

The -i halt option turns off all network interfaces which is bad on a
diskless client.
