I had the same problem, I could not compile openoffice. I just had the same warning message and the merge stopped. I only had 512 of RAM from which 128 are used by my graphic card, and with the system running it wasn't enough RAM room for Ooo to compile (at least 256 MB ?!). ANyway I bought myself a 1GB RAM card and that's it, I could emerge openoffice and, yesterday, I have successfully compiled it in like 4 hours hehe !
