Hi again,
I have gotten a few replies off list about this issue and found out that
I am not the only one having this problem. It seems the AT&T family
does not like TLSv1 messages or something. I wrote AT&T a message and
am waiting on a reply regarding this. If someone here knows how to find
out when exactly when they started using TLSv1 it would be great. If
they started on the 22nd, then this is very likely the problem. Also
keep in mind, I have not gotten anything about posts to the forums
either. Anything ending in gentoo.org has stopped. Maybe Gentoo
switched a little to soon for some providers??
Is there a way to reply with a web browser? I can view the messages on
the archives but can not figure out how to reply. I'm trying not to
clutter up the list here. I'm starting a thread here on the forums.
Maybe be easier and all.
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-691543.html Hope to see some email
gurus there. I need some help and so do at least one other person.
Dale
:-) :-)

The sending MTA should not be using TLS unless the receiving system
advertises STARTTLS in response to the EHLO from the sending system. So
if AT&T do not support TLS, then they should not be advertising that
capability to incoming mails.

Personally, I just use a gmail account for all my mailing list needs.
I got fed up having to change my subscribed address every so often so
started using my gmail account instead. You always know exactly how
it's going to want authentication, you can read mail in a browser if
you want, or pop it if you want, and best of all:
NO SPAM!

As long as you're subscribed, you can reply via the web interface(s).
Using the blog-like interface, there's a reply link at the bottom of
each post. Using the frames interface, there's a pull-down box near
the top right of each page.

Yeah, now that you can do pop or imap, gmail is pretty convenient. With
respect to spam - I've got 993 messages in my gmail "spam" folder...
which I think is quite a lot, are you not being deluged in this way?
Cheers

That's one possibility, but the two mails I cced to you have bounced back
with
<dalek1967@bellsouth.net>: host gateway-f1.isp.att.net[204.127.217.16]
refused to talk to me: 550-<my-ip-address> blocked by
ldap:ou=rblmx,dc=bellsouth,dc=net 550 Blocked for abuse.
I'm not running an open relay or involved in any other kind of abuse, so
this would appear to be a problem at their end.

Well, Dale has requested such feed back (bounced mail headers) at
the forums [1]. I believe he reads the list via http archives, so he
should see your message and hopefully it'll be of help.
[OT]
Neil, you'd better check if your IP address is not in some of the
popular public grey/black lists [2]. Sometimes it happens even if you
had nothing to do with abusing activities...false positives.

[2] I personally use these two:

Good point, but I'd checked these two and I'm not listed.

I've one word of advice for you: gmane
http://gmane.org/about.php
IMO, gmane is really the only civilized way to read mailing
lists. Pointing a good newsreader (I like slrn) at
news.gmane.org allows one to follow mailing lists with far less
effort/hassle -- and you never have to worry about mailboxes
filling up.
You also ought to switch to an ISP that doesn't suck, but
that's a different issue. ;)

Well, since I am on dial-up, I prefer to read most of my stuff offline.
It's easier for me at least. I did try to mess with gmane but never
could figure out how to make it work. Sort of gave up on it.
Right now, I'm planning to switch ISPs if DSL doesn't come soon. I'm
paying ~$24.00 for dial-up but DSL would be only ~$20.00 and DSL is
faster. Go figure out how backward that is. I mentioned that to the
FCC too.
