I'm probably not suggesting anything you don't already know, but just in ca= se: Notwithstanding that rsync is a superior tool just made for the job, I more= =20 often use tar instead of either rsync or cp. This is because when I back u= p=20 a complete fs I use whichever LiveCD I have at hand (usually Knoppix) which= =20 doesn't always have rsync on it. Anyway, the tar command has the option -d= =20 which diffs the contents of the archive and the original fs, if you want to= =20 see what happened after the archive was written, or want to decide if it is= =20 time/worth making a fresher back up. Alternatively and more appropriately= =20 if you run this as part of a back up process, there is the -W option. From= =20 the man page: =2DW, --verify attempt to verify the archive after writing it HTH. =2D-=20 Regards, Mick --nextPart1252330.7g1TqPPLuA Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBHxG+r5Fp0QerLYPcRApnSAJ4uKTJxCjRJrkIX1ZUujCF5lhcX4wCdF90L AUW92ov4oJzOwTTrMawteZ4= =9ADs -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart1252330.7g1TqPPLuA-- -- gentoo-user@lists.gentoo.org mailing list
