I am trying to run revdep-rebuild and can't get passed by this package
rpm-4.4.6-r3.
Compiling ends up in error which you can see at the end of this email. Need
some input on
this issue.

Thanks

We need more info. The actual error message is before the bit you
pasted.

This package is package.masked since 16 Jan 2007 (!) for testing by the
developer, so you should submit the bug report to him/her to fix these
compile errors.

It doesn't surprise me that it has been masked for so long, it must be a
rare system indeed that has rpm installed on a portage box :-)

Why don't you emerge 4.4.6-r4 instead, which is keyworded ~ on all
arches?
or 4.4.6-r3 which is stable on all arches

before.

Please don't top post.

I suggest you file a bug so the gentoo maintainer can help get to the
bottom of this.

Ah yes, I kinda just assumed that *someone* was maintaining the ebuild.
Then I realised that we are talking about rpm.

So, did I make a really really stupid assumption?

If you look in metadata.xml in /usr/portage/app-arch/rpm/ (or use e.g.
herdstat to query it for you) you'll see that the maintainer
is 'maintainer-needed'. So yes, currently it has no maintainer. In my latest
sync 498 out of 11901 packages have that status.
