* [gentoo-user] Why are some packages in portage's output bold?

Some time ago, I noticed that whenever I ran my semi-weekly 'emerge
-uavD world', some packages were given in bold. For a while I thought
perhaps they were more system-critical packages, but upon further
investigation I could find no sort of pattern to which packages were
being bolded and which weren't. Then I thought maybe it was a local
bug, but soon thereafter some of my friends noticed the same thing in
their portage outputs.

Does anyone know why this behavior occurs? To me it doesn't appear to
be providing any sort of useful information and only serves to confuse
me.

Thanks,

Ryan

Is this also documented somewhere? I mean, besides in the bug report
you digged out?

Thx,

I looked through bugs, but I guess I was doing it wrong since I didn't
come across that one.

Thanks for the help!

Ryan

Other than what's in `man 5 color.map`? Probably not.. The bug is referenced
in the ChangeLog but not explained. I *think* it's planned for the next gwn
(whenever that is) but I'm not really sure. You can of course complain about
that on the bug report I digged out.. ;)

yes, on the mailing list archives... someone called Ryan asked the
question and someone called Alexander asked if it was documented...
