I have this problem too.
After doing a
rm -rf /etc/font* /home/*/.font* && emerge freetype && X restart
font rendering was a little bit better, but there are still two issues (see 
also attached screenshots):
- The bullets of the password text input field in KDE are pixelized
- Konsole fonts have unconsistent fontkerning
