I seem to have that font alright:

$ slocate VeraBd
/usr/lib/openoffice/share/fonts/truetype/VeraBd.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/ttf-bitstream-vera/VeraBd.ttf
======================================

Not sure why it fails then.
