I thought that this was required to be able to= =20 play KDE system notifications? I checked again my settings. I have enabled the Sound System in Kcontrol, = but=20 have set it to use alsa. However, under System Notifications I used to=20 have /usr/bin/aplay as the external sound player (under Audio Player=20 settings). Since aplay was hard masked a long time ago, I switched back=20 to 'KDE sound system' which I believe is using Arts. I recall dmix playing= =20 nicely with arts by mixing system notification sounds with alsa. From your= =20 messages I assume that although alsa deals with software mixing all on its= =20 own it does not mix in nicely with Arts. Since aplay is hard masked, what external player should I use? What other= =20 options are there to be able to play system notifications, if I want to kee= p=20 alsa? Thanks for your responses. =2D-=20 Regards, Mick --nextPart2328959.P5mfL4qjph Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBF41KM5Fp0QerLYPcRAnPpAJ43cC7H4TcH4/g9sEaEWyIsLB140wCgsItX Ix8mFtNzl6veKbWwLMmHLgg= =MdIN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart2328959.P5mfL4qjph-- -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
