Hi there.

I gona install my UPS software on the gentoo box. The company does only
provide debian or rpm packages. Can I install it somehow?
Any hint or link?

Cheers in advance.

I'd suggest 2 steps:

app-arch/rpm2targz
Convert a .rpm file to a .tar.gz archive

and then:

app-admin/stow
manage installation of software in /usr/local

...

I'd create an ebuild for it...

I have a similar issue. I have a CyberPower UPS and should be using
powstatd but it is not in portage and I have no clue how to get it there
and the person who wrote powstatd doesn't know either. I have apcups
installed but it does not work like it should. If I am not here to cut
off the computer then I am stuck.

Anybody know a easy way to get something in portage? I don't know near
enough to do it myself, about portage or powstatd. I tried to install
manually once, no worky just errors. Worked fine in Mandrake though.

Do the above procedures work only for source rpm/debs or for binary ones
too? The OP seems to have binary packages...

nut claims to support several CyberPower models, see here:

http://www.networkupstools.org/compat/stable.html

and it's in portage. Did you give it a try?

You didn't bother to read the links, huh? Yes, it can work with binaries.

Yup, actually that is what I am using now. I said apcups but it is
actually nut and upsmon that I am using. Sorry. I tried apcups but it
wouldn't work either.

The powstatd program works very well. It is small and really simple to
set up. I used it before I switched to Gentoo and is the only thing I
have not been able to get to work since switching. Right now, if the
power fails, my computer will just keep running until it cuts off. It
sees that the power has failed but doesn't do anything about it. I had
powstatd set up that if the power fails for longer than 15 minutes, then
the shutdown started. Out here if the power is off longer than about 10
minutes, it will be a while. This happened the other day and I had to
manually shutdown my system. According to the log, it didn't even know
the power had failed this time.

When I get another UPS it will a APC one. Then maybe I can get it to
work like it should. I do like this one though. It can last a long
time with my monitor turned off. I just wish powstatd was in portage.

Only the deb page mentions binaries.
In the rpm page, the only example uses a src.rpm. Actually, I
could not find any mention of binary packages (or, for that matter, the
word "binary") in the whole page.
So imho it was not that clear (at least for the rpm case).
