Hi group,
How do I play wma files in xmms? So far I've emerged
xmms-wma-1.0.5 and win32codecs-20050216. In xmms
preferences xmm-wma *is* listed among the plug-ins.
A wma file shows up in the playlist but it doesn't
play. Another weird thing: if you try to read the file
info the whole player disappears.
No error messages that I can find.
Thanks in advance.
-Maxim

You can install xmmplayer, so, you uses the same plugin that mplayer and you
can play a lot of audio/video formats

You do know that xmms is masked and on it's way out?

Didn't know. What's a suitable alternative? Very
limited bandwith here; prefer small footprint.

If you try to emerge xmms, you'll receive the below message, which lists some recommended alternatives to xmms.
Me, I use audacious, as it's similar to xmms.
$ emerge -pv xmms
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "xmms" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r16 (masked by: package.mask, ~amd64 keyword)
# Diego Pettenò <flameeyes@gentoo.org> (23 Oct 2006)
# Pending removal 23 November for multiple bugs
# Use anything but this, like media-sound/audacious
# media-sound/amarok media-sound/mpd media-sound/rhythmbox
# media-sound/muine media-sound/banshee

Yeah, I saw that but the part that says "Use anything
but this" didn't make sense to me. Sounds like it's
saying "Don't use the following".
Anyways, I emerged mplayer and that seems to fit the
bill.
