Oskar,
Blame ATI, they have 3 options, open the driver, keep up with Xorg dev,
or piss people off. It as always seemed to me that they like option 3

i have both drivers 'ati-drivers-8.29.6 and xf86-video-ati-6.6.3' on top of
xorg-server-7.1 and linux-2.6.18-gentoo-r1. xorg drivers i keep in case
something goes wrong and they don't support 3d for my radeon9600pro card.
