It'll=20 save you some time, and while a lot of people correctly point out that=20 it robs you of a great learning experience, it was the only thing that=20 enabled a complete newbie (me) to successfully install gentoo. Once you've got Gentoo installed though... it's almost invulnerable. =20 I've done some really dumb things to my installation, and I've always=20 been able (with a great deal of help from this list) to restore my=20 machine to working order. I also have to say that your memory footprint will get smaller with=20 gentoo. The stuff you compile is much more suited to your setup if you=20 spend the time to tweak your system. It has some excellent tools for administering your system, and I haven't=20 had a stability problem yet (Kubuntu is more error-prone than Gentoo -=20 no joke.) If you're up to the challenge, Gentoo is wonderful. I love it so much I=20 installed it on my server. Also, for a threaded mail client, KMail*, Thunderbird, and even MS=20 Outlook Express have threaded features. If you're interested in GMail,=20 I'd be happy to send you an invite. *Coming from a happy and satisfied (even spoiled) KMail user. Worth a=20 try if nothing else. =2D-=20 http://lordsauronthegreat.googlepages.com/ --nextPart32219782.JLGXiIcm9E Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBFIA5RHcNVi48i054RAqfWAKCG0/rj+4SnxhCCyNvMO2M4FT3tAgCcCcOc j5IJB9Hx08adFuSm64zs73c= =ldpM -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart32219782.JLGXiIcm9E-- -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
