Hi,

Is the remote machine running Gentoo?

I had the same problem yesterday on two Gentoo machines here, and from doing lsof | grep sshd it seemed that sshd was being run from /var/tmp/portage
rather than /usr/sbin - I think i re-emerged ssh and restarted the sshd service a few times and it sorted it out.

Cheers

Kevin
