Subject: [gentoo-user] Question about net.ppp0 and layout
Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2006 20:09:56 -0400	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20060905000956.GA25551@waltdnes.org> (raw)

  Error messages listed below, but not as clear as I would like. I'm
doing an update, and running into problems with net-dialup/ppp, the
second last file in the list. Before doing anything rash, like deleting
files I need, I'd like to confirm whether I should do it. I do not have
ppp come up on dialup. I use dialup as emergency backup for my ADSL
connection. I set up the connection with pppconfig, and dial out with
pon, enabled for my regular account via /etc/sudoers.

  Should I delete the files, yes or no?

  After this, my next "excellent adventure" will be upgrading to gcc
4.1.1.

[ebuild     U ] net-dialup/ppp-2.4.3-r16 [2.4.2-r15] USE="-eap-tls% -gtk%"
[ebuild     U ] net-misc/whois-4.7.12 [4.7.2]

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

 * Gentoo is moving toward common configuration file for all network
 * interfaces. Thus starting from >=ppp-2.4.3-r10 the following files
 * are obsoleted and should be removed to avoid future confusion:
 *     /etc/conf.d/net.ppp0 - conflict with baselayout
 *     /etc/init.d/net.ppp0 - conflict with baselayout
 *     /etc/ppp/chat-default - unused by this version
 *     /etc/ppp/options-pppoe - unused by this version
 *     /etc/ppp/options-pptp - unused by this version

 * If you use the old net.ppp0 script, you need to:
 *    - upgrade to >=sys-apps/baselayout-1.12.0_pre11
 * - set ppp0 parameters in /etc/conf.d/net (see example file)
 *    - remove conflicting files
 *    - upgrade net-dialup/ppp

 * If you never used net.ppp0 script, just run the following commands:
 *     rm //etc/conf.d/net.ppp0 //etc/init.d/net.ppp0 //etc/ppp/chat-default //etc/ppp/options-pppoe //etc/ppp/options-pptp
 *     emerge --resume

!!! Conflicts with baselayout support detected
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
