So the lv3 stuff works something like this: alt+; then letter gives right accented letter alt+[ then letter gives umlauted letter alt+] then letter gives tilded letter alt+' then letter gives hatted letter There's a different set called compose rather than lv3 that will give you "composed" things, compose+letter then ' gives accented letter, etc. It's sort of a more logical model. Look in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/compose for "xkb_symbols" instead for its possible buttons. So, do a 'genlop --list --date 5 days ago', or something similar, to find out which packages got emerged for the upgrade of Xorg, and then start re-emerging those (not by version number, but by name), one by one, and keep restarting X to see when it gets fixed. >From another angle: have you tried using KDE or GNOME to control the nationality of the keyboard? I generated 2 xorg.conf with xorgconfig and Xorg -configure, both don't work (always black screen), the 2nd one works on xorg-x11-6.8.2-r8. # emerge --info Portage 2.1-r1 (default-linux/amd64/2006.0, gcc-3.4.6/amd64-vanilla, glibc-2.3.6-r4, 2.6.17-gentoo x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.17-gentoo x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.15 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] app-admin/eselect-compiler: 2.0.0_rc2-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.4.2 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r2 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon64 -pipe -ftracer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/eselect/compiler /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon64 -pipe -ftracer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.wh2.tu-dresden.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/ http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/" LINGUAS="it en de bg pt" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 3dnowex X a52 aac aalib acpi aim alsa arts audiofile avi bash-completion bitmap-fonts browserplugin bzip2 bzlib cdparanoia cdr cli crypt cscope cups dga dio directfb divx4linux dlloader dri dv dvb dvd dvdr dvdread eds emacs emboss encode exif f77 fam fame fbcon ffmpeg fftw flac flash foomaticdb fortran ftp gcj gif gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal icq id3 ieee1394 imagemagick imlib ipv6 isdnlog jack java jikes joystick jpeg justify kde kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility kerberos kernel_linux krb4 lame lcms lirc live lm_sensors lzo lzw lzw-tiff mad matroska mbox memlimit mime ming mjpeg mng mono motif mp3 mp4live mpeg mpeg2 mplayer msn mssql mule musicbrainz mysql mysqli ncurses nls nomac nptl nptlonly nsplugin objc ogg oggvorbis on-the-fly-crypt openal opengl oscar pam pcre pdflib perl player png posix ppds pppd python qt qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl sensord session sharedmem skey sndfile sox speex spell spl ssl svg swat sysfs szip tcltk tcpd test tetex theora threads tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb userlocales utf8 v4l v4l2 vcd videos vorbis wsconvert wxwindows x264 xanim xine xinerama xml2 xmms xorg xosd xpm xprint xscreensaver xv xvid yahoo yv12 zlib zvbi elibc_glibc input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse input_devices_penmount input_devices_joystick linguas_it linguas_en linguas_de linguas_bg linguas_pt userland_GNU video_cards_radeon video_cards_vesa video_cards_v4l" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY from Xorg -configure: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1" EndSection Section "Module" Load "extmod" Load "dbe" Load "record" Load "xtrap" Load "dri" Load "glx" Load "freetype" Load "type1" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" # I change it Option "XkbModel" "pc105" # I change it Option "XkbLayout" "de" # I change it EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" # I change it Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "Monitor" #DisplaySize 360 260 # mm Identifier "Miro" VendorName "PTS" ModelName "miro P1998F" ### Comment all HorizSync and VertSync values to use DDC: HorizSync 30.0 - Ok, I open the thread again... I'm so sorry! So, I update my gentoo from xorg-6.8.2-r8 to xorg-7.0-r1 with a lot of problems. I solved almost all of them thanks to you (and especially Benno who had enough patience with me). I found a very annoience problem in new xorg: if I enable the glx module on /etc/X11/xorg.conf, my computer chashes (blank on monitor, no keyboard and mouse), without it, xorg starts with all my possible configuration files. Now, I need glx (to use opengl for jahshaka). I found no uswful info in /var/log/Xorg.0.log no errors! I use xorg drivers on my ati radeon card. I post my xorg.conf : I hope that it can be useful. I generate it with Xorg -configure command. # cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1" EndSection Section "Module" Load "extmod" Load "dbe" Load "record" Load "xtrap" Load "dri" # Load "glx" Load "freetype" Load "type1" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbLayout" "de" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" EndSection Section "Monitor" #DisplaySize 360 260 # mm Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "PTS" ModelName "miro P1998F" HorizSync 30.0 - 98.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Card0" Driver "radeon" VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc" BoardName "RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Option "EnablePageFlip" "true" Option "AGPFastWrite" "true" Option "AGPMode" "4" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection Thanks a lot, Luigi - -- Public key GPG(0x633F86B7) on hkp://keyserver.linux.it/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFE40nBHmkkjmM/hrcRAr8XAJ4/5lHwuyIdfK95Q7L6mnk5f87GQgCfYNXe Eq1yHDt9nNfsM+tgOKFfaf0= =bhoh -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 28+ messages in thread
