Hi folks,

I have recently noticed that when I get new email my screen flashes red,
on whatever desktop I am on even if it is not where Mozilla is. I went
into prefs and the mail settings thing and can not find a setting to cut
off this "feature". I did find the one for the new email notification
for sound but not the flashy thing. Is this a coincadense or is there
something new here. I'm using KDE 3.5.2 and Mozilla 1.7.12. It started
with the last KDE upgrade too. It took me a while to figure out what
was making it do it.

How do I get rid of this??

Thanks

Dale

:-)

Oh, I had to change email addresses, can someone confirm this is being
sent text only please??

Sorry, I can't answer this - I am still on stable KDE and am not using
Mozilla for mail, but have answered the next question. :-)

Well, that took care of one of my questions at least. I am 99.99999999%
sure this is when I get new email. I can close Mozilla a while and then
when I open it and it gets my new email, as soon as it finishes getting
them it flashes my screen red. I had everything else closed to make sure.

Any ideas folks??

Thanks.

Dale

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

OK, you get the idea. That thing was starting to get on my nerves. :/
They need a warning on that one since it is on by default. I wish it
would ask questions when you login the first time after a upgrade about
the new "features" and whether you want them on or not.

Thanks much.

I very much doubt it. But there _is_ something screwed in those
Bell settings, as Regional > Accessibility interacts with Sound >
System Bell. And the upgrade to 3.5.2 robbed me of the "plop"
sound, replacing it with a loud "MEHP". :|

Ah well, better than a frightening red flash. :)

I notice that in Konsole, I didn't get the beep for a good while. After
the last upgrade it worked again. So maybe they are working on it.

Where is that "MEHP" sound located and what do they call it? There are
a lot of sounds in /usr/kde/3.5/share/sounds/. I copied some over from
the old KDE 3.4 before I removed it. I would like to find some more
sounds though. I like the noise.

The first time I got that red flash, I thought my 19" monitor was going
out. I would hate for something to happen to this thing right now. I
sure do like it. Since my eyes are getting bad I went back to the old
resolution of 1280x1024 instead of that 1600x1200. It's official, I'm
getting old now. :-(

Thanks, wonder what else new is in there??

It's the PC speaker itself, the System Bell that lets you set
Volume, Pitch and Duration (except that Volume doesn't work here,
it sets Duration too).

Visit http://www.kde-look.org/, System Sounds.

Thanks. For future reference, http://www.simplythebest.net/sounds/ has
a few too.
