IMPORTANT: Please don't follow the following advice until you have had a=20 second opinion from someone else=E2=80=94I think this will work, but I ca= n't swear it=20 will: Reformat to NTFS and then use a recovery tool. If I remember right, windo= ws=20 fdisk is pretty insistent on doing a low level format, so you would be sa= fer=20 using the gnu tool for formatting. I don't know whether the gnu ntfs tool= s=20 are up to the recovery job, or whether you need to use something propriet= ary. If you are lucky you may be able to read the old data on the newly create= d=20 partition without needing to use a recovery tool (I was able to do that w= ith=20 a linux partition once=E2=80=94can't remember if it was reiserfs or ext3)= , but I=20 would copy all the files somewhere safe in any case because even very min= or=20 corruption could come back to haunt you later (as many theologians never = tire=20 of reminding us). --=20 Robert Persson Conspiracy Bears: Once upon a time there were lots of conspiracy bears... --=20 gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
