Do you have "opengl" in your USE-flags (in "/etc/make.conf" file)? If Yes this could explain why login fails only with KDM. Could be wrong her= e though ;-) Solutions: 1.compile a new kernel with AGP support in it (see above in kernel config) = or 2.remove 'opengl' from "make.conf" and rebuild all affected packages (emerg= e -N world -pv).
