Allan ,don't get me wrong - I"m not trying to "pin" you, I just want=20 to point out that computers and software tend to fail, so whenever=20 you're updating/upgrading one or the other you *have to* have backup=20 plan. In most scenarios having production machine means that you=20 *have to* have development machine working in parallel (ideally=20 identical to production machine in all respects) - any changes to=20 production machine should be tried/tested on development machine=20 first. Being sysadmin for about 7 years now I know that things do=20 happen and you have to be ready/prepeared for everything.=20 Another point is to go with the "lowest resistance" path - update only=20 GLSA's and do full-blown upgrades only when you plan them carefully=20 and test'em out on development box. =2D-=20 Dmitry Makovey Web Systems Administrator Athabasca University http://www.athabascau.ca http://www.makovey.net --nextPart45209700.tgHBkeWUKO Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBDWWWcyDrVuGfS98QRAnD/AKCpRH5Ny0q/G+9S0pCZuz8/N0roTACeNLct cu6b4WuJY8l3cvG/8j66CVw= =k0W8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart45209700.tgHBkeWUKO-- -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
