Hi 

when i work in shell it shows me the complete path of the folder i am in ... 
this make the command promt to extend to almost half the screen .. How can i 
change the prompt so that it displays only the directory i am in ..

in your PS1 variable, change \w with \W

you could redefine your PS1 in your .bashrc.
