Subject: [gentoo-user] Problems after reemerging GCC
Date: Mon, 22 Aug 2005 12:16:30 -0700 (PDT)	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20050822191631.2053.qmail@web53807.mail.yahoo.com> (raw)

Hi,

I just installed Gentoo. I decided I wanted GCJ and
Objective C support in the GCC, so I recompiled it.

What do you have to do after reemerging it? Because
afterwords, whenever I would try to run most
applications, I would get some error like "failed to
load shared libraries". I read somewhere on the
internet to add the new gcc
path(/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.3.5-20050130) to
LD_LIBRARY_PATH and then env-update.

While this stopped giving me the error I was seeing,
now when I try to emerge programs, the compilation
fails.

It says

"i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc: installation problem, cannot
exec
`/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5-20050130/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5-20050130/cc1':
No such file or directory
"

I've now looked at
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=2&chap=5,
but that hasn't helped me too much.

I don't know if the following helps, but my
/etc/env.d/05gcc looks like

"PATH="/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.3.5-20050130"
ROOTPATH="/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.3.5-20050130"
MANPATH="/usr/share/gcc-data/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5-20050130/man"
INFOPATH="/usr/share/gcc-data/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5-20050130/info"
LDPATH="/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5-20050130"
GCC_SPECS=""
"

and /etc/env.d/05gcc-i686-pc-linux-gnu
"
PATH="/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.3.5-20050130"
ROOTPATH="/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.3.5-20050130"
"
