I recently changed my gentoo's ip address from 192.168.2.40 to
192.168.0.40. I did a "grep" in /etc and changed all instances in
/etc.
I note the following in /etc/env.d/99local:
http_proxy="http://192.168.2.40:3128"
ftp_proxy="ftp://192.168.2.40:3128"
My question:
Is this file automatically created or is it user-defined? I don't
remember ever creating it or editing it. Should I put my own
environment variables in here or should I use /etc/profile?

Yeah great - i dunno about anyone else, but i'm getting sick of seeing
these now - any chance of an admin 'removing' the offending email
address? :(

Can the list admin kick this guy off? He apparently has some sort of
auto-reply on his box and this is the 5th mail like this I've got from
him... one in reply to EACH message coming into the list today.

Put them in here, then env-update will add them to /etc/profile. If you
put them in ./etc/profile directly, they could be overridden in a
baselayout update.
