It's a known problem with A70 and A75 laptops. I blow mine out weekly and I keep the rear elevated to increase airflow. It does it mostly when compiling. I've been known to put it in front of the ac when running emerge -uavD world. Haven't tried the fridge, yet. There is also a static issue with some A70 and A75 laptops. Unfortunately, your symptoms sound like it. I'd go to toshiba support and check it out if you are still under warranty. A lot of people have had this problem. By touching the speaker covers you can lock up your machine. After this happens a few times, you get symptoms like you've described. They replace the cover of your laptop and sometimes the motherboard. Long thread about it: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=39467 The toshiba link was to long to paste but here is the gist Applicable Models: Satellite A75-S206, A75-S2061, A75-S226, A75-S276, A75-S2761, A75-S2762, A70-S256, A70-S2561, A70-S249, A70-S2491, A70-S259, A70-S2591, A75-S209, A75-S2091, A75-S229, A75-S2291, A75-S2292, A70-S2492ST, M35X-S149, M35X-S1491, M35X-S109, M35X-S309, M35X-S3091, M35X-S329, M35X-S3291, M35X-S349, M35X-S3491, M30X-S1592ST, M30X-S1593ST, M35X-S1492, A75-S211, A75-S2111, A75-S231, A75-S2311, A75-S2293, M35X-S111, M35X-S161, M35X-S1611, M35X-S311 On some Satellite A70/A75 and M30X/M35X models, the computer may lock up (hang) or restart, immediately after the computer is touched. If you experience these symptoms, please have your system tested by the Toshiba Notebook Depot, or a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP). There will be no charge for the testing or for any repairs. For further information about how to arrange for shipment to and service at the Toshiba Notebook Depot or a Toshiba ASP in your area please call 1-800-457-7777. I'd return it if you can. Even if you get the static issue sorted out, it'll always run hot. If you don't believe me, google it. Good Luck -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
