Hello everyone,

I assume my sound card is detected as I get the following:

# lspci | grep audio
0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801AA AC'97
Audio (rev 02)

But if I try to play any audio file, I get no sound! in mplayer it
gives me an error box saying: "audio_setup: Can't open audio device
/dev/dsp: Permission denied"

I'm using fluxbox and I don't know how to increase/decrease the volume!!

I would really appreciate any kind of help :)

What session manager are you using? The error described, typically means
that upon login the audio devices were not reassigned to the user. If
you do an ls -l /dev and ls -l /dev/snd, the owner should be the logged in
user. I know Entrance does not properly re-assign the ownership.

The other possibility is the user is not in the audio group of /etc/group
