This isn't very comfortable and you're probably losing information this way. If you're looking for a framebuffer solution which rasters the pages: I didn't found one. I decided that once i have a little bit of spare time, i'll write a framebuffer driver for ghostscript. You may raster the PDF to images with ghostscript and view it with a image viewer, e.g. convert a pdf to a multi-image-tiff (at fixed resolution) and use fbi/fbv to view that.
