I agree with the rest, 2 does not make a pattern.
I use WDs extensively and only had a few failures. None of the failures led to 
dataloss. (Thanks to SMART and Backups)

For 1GB spinning rust 2.5inch, I use WD Blue drives. They do the job they were 
bought for (cheap backup storage).

After 5 years, you might want to consider replacing the laptop though 
(Assuming that's where the drive is)
