You really have no authority to talk, Volker.
I seem to recall you can't even recognise filesystem corruption, likely a hard-drive failing with physical errors:

I give you a hint, because you need it:
nothing at all.
That posting was about Macos making it impossible to delete stuff WITHOUT ANY
INFORMATION ABOUT THE REASONS. There were no errors. No error messages
ANYWHERE. I am doing this crap for long enough to recognize an error. But
failing silently? That is bad.
Even worse people like you blaming the messanger for the shortcomings of a
operating system.
Instead of insulting me and trolling around you should waste a second or two
and think before you hit the send button. You need it.

I can't possibly insult you, Volker. You're too much of an asshole for words to do you justice.
A few weeks ago I wrote some strong things about another poster here, but having done so I realised that at least he earns enough respect to make that worthwhile. You don't. He'll rebut your points, but at least he'll bother to read them, address them and give them some credence in his responses.
Not only are you compelled to think you're always right, but you're extremely rude about it, and arrogant, too.
Had you come back to me previously and said "you know what? maybe it is a failing hard-drive, I'll try that" then I could have received some satisfaction about having helped you out. But, no, you did't think of that. You were wrong, and your ego did not permit you to acknowledge that. This is totally consistent with all your previous behaviour.
You probably have some kind of mental problem or hereditary defect, but that doesn't mean the rest of us should have to put up with your behaviour.

I know you are talking about Alan - a person I respect a lot. A person who
does not troll and is a usefull part of this mailing list. For some reason I
never saw a need to call him out on stupid behaviour. There must be a
reason....

and that from you. I am shocked.
Thinking about it. No, I am not.

hm, maybe because I checked back them, and made sure the harddrive was ok?
Btw, in sane operating systems, harddrive malfunctions result in visible
errors. If not displayed so in the logs. Guess what I checked? Oh look, no
errors in all the logs. No errors at all. Have you tried to delete a damaged
file on a damaged disk? rm will fail with an error.
Guess what didn't happen back then.
Believe me, I have had enough harddrive malfunctions in my life. I recognize
the symptoms. Thank you.
But hey, you are still sore that I did not thank you?
Well, thanks for your time Stroller, but sadly I already checked, the
harddrive in question is in fine working order.
> But, no, you did't think of that.
oh yes, I did. See above.

I am still right, you are attacking me for no reason whatsoever.
Which is consistent with your trolling in your first post in this thread.

But we should put up with you trolling around and then acting all insulted and
whiney when told to stop it?
Hm, double standards.. love them.

Ah, here we go. The regular once-a-week-gentoo-user-fight-fest.
But we missed the last 4 instalments. I'd been swamped at work and
couldn't be bothered jumping into the middle of a good fight. What
excuse do you two have?

and then there is the difference between emotions and blatant trolling.

Well, from here it appears the problem is your lack of
ability to understand the joke, mistaking it for "trolling".
In any event, it's always ill-advised to try to control what other
people say or do. Mostly because it's futile, but also it makes you
look intolerant and humorless.

I'm calling you out on your consistent long-term pattern of behaviour on this list.
>> You probably have some kind of mental problem or hereditary defect, but that
>> doesn't mean the rest of us should have to put up with your behaviour.

Unless there is some family or intimate connection the rest of us are unaware of, there are no grounds for you to be offended on behalf of a convicted murderer. It's not trolling to make a joke, but anyone else asking another list user to refrain from humour would have used an adjective like "off topic" or "inappropriate".
Regardless of whether or not they thought the joke funny, anyone else would have asked nicely, because that's the kind of social lubricant most people employ. Do you know why they do that, Volker? Because people don't think you're such an asshole if you ask nicely.
You had to use the word "idiotic", apparently because it makes you feel big, like in your head you have more stature, when you slap someone else down.
You could have just let it go, as numerous times in the past I've let your attitude slide. But each time I thought to myself, "no, it's not worth starting a fight, it wouldn't be of any benefit to the other users on the list". But each time I bite my tongue, it just lets you get away with it, gives you permission to be an asshole again and to someone else. That's why I'm calling you out on it.
This is not one incident, this is not about me. This is about every time Volker disagrees with someone on the list, and him doing it in the most blunt and antagonising manner. Everyone else on the list can see for themselves what you are, and make their own minds up. No-one objects to you having an opinion, it's just the way you express them, like it makes you superior to be "right".
Stroller.

I am not offended because of a murderer. I am offended by your weak trolling.
Somebody asks some raiser4 related questions and little trolls like you pop up
and spout their crap. All the fucking time.

no, I used it because your 'joke' was idiotic. Beware: I did not call yourself
an idiot. A suble difference you should have thought about.
I am sick of people who troll around and then go all whiney when put down. You
can either handle the flames or you restrain yourself. It seems that you
aren't able to do either so you have to go into whiney little moral instance
mode.
Well done.

It would appear certain nuances of communication are simply lost on
you, like for example the difference between a "lecture" and a "simple
observation".
Oh well, carry on as you will...
I do often find your posts interesting anyway.

Volker! This is the heart of the problem and you fail to see it.
Stroller is *hardly* a troll but, as others have pointed out, you took
his humor to be trolling. No one else did, so take another look.

it is either trolling or tasteless.
Does it become ok because it was a tasteless joke instead of an answer to a
serious question?

Sure; humor is subjective. People who 'get' the joke are welcome to
dislike it, but it's still understood to be in jest, and not taken
seriously.

Ok, maybe I should just excuse you for your disability. It's clear you're not properly calibrated to social interactions.
The whole point of "trolling" is that it *is* an attempt to offend or disturb. So if you have no reason to be offended or disturbed, then my joke couldn't possibly have been trolling.

Are you trying to backpedal now? Because anyone can see that idiocy is inherently associated with idiots, and you're likely to antagonise people just the same whichever way you phrase it.

If using a filesystem written by a murderer is wrong, I don't want to

oh sure, because I have called you for your trolling, I am unable to interact.
You know me really well. Wow, thanks for your distant-analyzation of my mind.
You must be a genius.

You offended and you disturbed. Instead of an answer you sent a tasteless
joke. Which is a disturbance. Follwing your own sentence above that is
trolling.
Really, try better.

no. I stand by my word. Your 'joke' was bad trolling and idiotic.

I really do not care about your esteem for me. Or what anybody else on this
list think about me.
If you were among my 'real life' friends - yeah, I would care. But some
anonymous troll on a mailing list? Seriously, you aren't even man enough to
post using your name - and I shall regard your person highly?
