Hi,
I have a Ryzen system running, so I used 4.16 as a few features are only
available there. Using ~amd64 for newer versions. Why is non ~ stuck with 4.14
now?
As 4.16 is already removed from gentoo-sources I am kind of stuck with a
non existing package.
Konstantin

I'm not absolutely certain, but I vaguely remember a decision for
gentoo-sources regarding which would be marked stable. It might be that
only LTS kernels will ever get marked stable. I think it was because
the non-LTS releases were just too fast and frequent to allow the
stabilization process to work well. It isn't an actual comment on
stability, but a result of work-flow.

4.14 is the LTS (long term support) kernel, thus that will have stable
keywords only.
4.16 is EOL (end of life) and doesn't receive fixes anymore, so it was
removed from the main tree.
4.17 is the new non-LTS series that still receives updates, so you
probably want to upgrade to that, if you don't want to downgrade (or
can't due to suboptimal Ryzen support there). In that case you want to
upgrade to new series in a timely manner until at least a new LTS
appears - then you could stick to that one instead (stable versions).
See the nomenclature also on https://www.kernel.org/
