Hi,

Since a short time I have a critical problem with sshfs.
I cannot unmount it !

Doing, e.g.,

sshfs -o transform_symlinks -o Cipher="blowfish" numa-sv:/Save /numa-sv

works just fine.

df shows
numa-sv:/Save 148976776 102070872 40882408 72% /numa-sv

grep /numa-sv /etc/mtab shows

numa-sv:/Save /numa-sv fuse.sshfs rw,nosuid,nodev 0 0

BUT trying to do (which has been working for a long time)

fusermount -u /numa-sv

now gives

fusermount: entry for /numa-sv not found in /etc/mtab

sudo umount /numa-sv
and
sudo fusermount -u /numa-sv

do work, but then I'd have to generate a general rule in /etc/sudoers
and
add everybody to the group 'wheel' which I'd like to avoid.

I'm using

kernel 3.5.3

openssh 6.1_p1

sshfs-fuse (GIT version 2012/09/13)

fuse 2.9.1-r1

I can't use fuse from GIT since it breaks many packages on my machine.

Many thanks for a hint,
Helmut.

It works here with sshfs-fuse-2.4. Maybe it is because the directory
lives directly under /? Try mounting it in a directory inside $HOME,
and see if it works that way.

Since two days I think, I have the same problem. Not with sshfs, but
with NTFS-3G, which uses FUSE. I can mount as user, but I can only
unmount as root.

I've no idea what package is responsible for this change of behavior.
"qlop -l" for the last 6 days shows:

It appears to be the kernel module AFACT. I tried every version of fuse
going back to 2.8.6, all with the same problem. Then I tried it on a box
still running a 3.9.6 kernel and it worked as it should.

This can't be it. I didn't update the kernel. But I booted an older
kernel anyway to test (3.5.2) and the problem was still there.

Something else changed.

3.5.2 isn't that much older, when did this stop working for you? I
haven't used sshfs in a while, I've no idea when it broke here. BTW that
should read 3.0.6 for the older kernel I tried it on.

About 3 days ago. Maybe 4.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work either.
It seems to be related to a recent kernel as others have similar
problems with fuse reported elsewhere.

Thanks,
Helmut.

I filed a bug now:

   https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435540

Everyone who's affected should feel free to confirm there.

Happens here, too, with mp3fs. I'm not able to login to Gentoo
Bugzilla now but will add my vote later if I get a chance.

OK, the culprit was util-linux-2.22. If you want a fix right now, the
upstream patch that fixed the issue is:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=utils/util-linux/util-linux.git;a=patch;h=4be900c51d371a7a41495e4eca2d29fc77c20c7c

Yes, many thanks for your effort.

I'm breathing a sigh of relief!

Now, my daily backups work again,

Helmut.
