Hello,
I need a x86 'thin client' or small form factor computer:
(1) hard drive. (front-removable would be a bonus).
(2) empty pci slots.
(1 or more) RS232 9pin serial port.
(1) ethernet 10 or 100 mbps.
(1-2) ntsc inputs would eliminate the need for one of the
pci slots.
OK. Hopefully a box that is not too difficult to get Gentoo
installed and maintain.
Any recommendations?
James

For our firewalls and thin clients we're using Minit-ITX Epia Boards.
Check http://www.viaembedded.com/ for yourself. They have boards for
almost any flavour. Gentoo runs just fine on them.

That isn't really a thin client but a small computer. TCs usually are
diskless.
I gather you want to use it for streaming video?

The question is, what's it all got to do with gentoo?

Well, I understand your point, but, hardware issues
centric to gentoo, on frequent issues on this list.
I often put OT in front of things I'm uncertain about,
but, this effort is most certainly gentoo centric.
Here's an example of the type of response I expected:
https://www.pegasosppc.com/special_odw.php?partner=gentoo
This box is not what I need. But an excellent example
of hardware that is gentoo centric. Not to mention that
Genesi is a a gentoo sponser.
If the gentoo-embedded list were more active, I could
have posted there.
sorry if I offended you....

I have a MSI Hetis 865G (
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=msi+hetis+865G+system) that runs Gentoo
and MythTV nicely. It meets your criteria and s-video out is the only
non-compliant feature I've found.
