I suspect you need these options in your kernel:
Device Drivers
 Input Device Support
  Event Interface (CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV=y)

I also have:
..
  Mice
   PS/2 Mouse
and all the sub-options compiled in:
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSE=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_ALPS=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_LOGIPS2PP=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_SYNAPTICS=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_LIFEBOOK=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_TRACKPOINT=y

that's nice to know.  Just so this email is accepted by your security
policy, I double-rot13'd the reply.  Note that your comments are now
quadruple-rot13'd, but I think you should be able to decrypt them
without too much hassle.
