I'm really confused. Last night when I did emerge -pvuD world, emerge
said that mozilla was blocking seamonkey. I unmerged mozilla and ran
emerge -pvuD again to make sure that everything was okay. It said that
mozilla was still blocking seamonkey, but I checked and mozilla wasn't
even merged:
camille ~ # emerge -pvuD world
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Looks like some other package wants to install mozilla as a dependency
but can't as sea-monkey is blocking it.
'equery depends mozilla' ought to help - look for things you have
installed then decide if you can live without them or not. Or, you may
simply have a mozilla USE flag set

Hi,
equery doesn't always work, as you think it would. (ie. shows nothing)
emerge -uDtpv world should show you though what's trying to pull in mozilla.
Cheers,

I did "equery belongs mozilla" and unmerged everything it listed. Then
I put "-mozilla" in my USE list in /etc/make.conf. I then did an
"emerge uDtpv world". Here's the output:
camille ~ # emerge -uDtpv world

Here, this is trying to pull in mozilla:
> [nomerge ] dev-dotnet/gecko-sharp-0.6

Might be other things as well, rinse and repeat.
Hope this helps.

If I remember the discussion in the appropriate bug correctly,
there isn't any fix. gecko-sharp depends on mozilla. Period.
Even though it's not required, you're forced to install mozilla,
even if you normally use firefox and have gecko-sdk installed.
Even then you're forced to install mozilla.

I got through it this morning.
Some packages have a new "firefox" use flag, and when it isn't set (it
wasn't here), the ebuild tries to merge seamonkey, which in turn
blocks mozilla.
In your case, it's the yelp that is causing this. If you enable the
firefox use flag, it will try to compile against firefox instead of
trying seamonkey.

I don't want firefox though. I want mozilla, and if mozilla is now
called seamonkey, I want seamonkey. If I turn on the firefox use flag,
won't it try to emerge firefox and block seamonkey? And if seamonkey is
the new mozilla, why does mozilla block it?

Nevermind. I stopped trying to emerge -uD world and just said "emerge
-av yelp" (after I unmerged it in my exasperation) and now seamonkey and
yelp are installing.

Mozilla isn't called SeaMonkey now. SeaMonkey and Mozilla Suite
are seperate projects, with Mozilla Suite being rather dead now.

Yes.

No.

Firefox is the new Mozilla. SeaMonkey is a fork. Anyway - if
I understood the bug correctly, SeaMonkey (or Firefox) won't
be sufficient for gecko-sharp. gecko-sdk will suffice, eventually.

Maybe this will help. I went through this the other day. In
package.keywords:
> www-client/seamonkey ~x86
In package.unmask:
> <=www-client/seamonkey-1.0.2
Maybe something is different between us but that worked for me about a
week ago. I don't think it is keyworded or masked anymore but just in case.
Oh, I did still have mozilla in my USE line. I just removed it but it
was there and it still worked. I also still have mozilla-launcher
installed and Seamonkey will not start without it. Go figure.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
If you want seamonkey in mozilla's place 'virtually install' mozilla.
#echo "www-client/mozilla-1.7.13" >> /etc/portage/profile/package.provided
This will make portage believe that mozilla is really installed.
But watch out for changes in "gecko-sharp" whatever wants to fetch
mozilla. Now 'yelp' will *use* seamonkey.
