We're planning a gentoo developer conference[1] the day after LinuxWorld Expo
in San Francisco this year (making the date of said event August 12th). It
will be a full day of presentations and shoulder-rubbing.
One of our hosting providers, Global Netoptex, has stepped up and offered a
site for the conference, wifi, AND lunch/drinks all for free. Derek Wise,
the CEO, has been very excited about helping out. They are limited in
seating to 30 seats, but not knowing the demand ahead of time we decided to
go with this. To make up for the limited seating, Indiana University is
stepping up to webcast the event, and will also provide video archives of the
conference sessions. This can effectively make it a worldwide Gentoo
conference. They can handle about 200+ streams at once.
Where I need to involve the Foundation is this: We will charge a small
registration fee (probably $10, but the exact figure isn't set yet) to avoid
everyone rushing the registration and filling seats without a real
commitment. Also, Netoptex has offered to split the cost of conference
shirts, so the registration will cover a t-shirt.
Would it be okay to have the money paypal'd to the Foundation and let the
Foundation become the collection point? In the registration page we could
point to a paypal object that is named for this conference, so the money is
easily distinguished from within paypal. I would just rather see this
handled through the Foundation than through an individual person. Any
leftover money can stay with the Foundation, so this is not a budget request
per se. What would probably happen is that when it comes time for the
conference I could paypal the money to me and disburse it accordingly.
Thoughts?

That's fine with me. Do we have an official treasurer to handle the
books? All those opposed to cshields..., or shall we just dump the job
on him and declare him treasurer by fiat?

Likewise with grant as president.. I think we can give another day or
so for people to say "nay" and we consider it done.
Anyone want to step up as Vice President (for when Grant is not
available to perform) and Secretary?
