Hey all,

Just letting you know that I have access to all domains related to
Gentoo that Daniel had via a GoDaddy account. We need to get Grant's
phone number on there and update a few other info when we get a chance.
The major thing right now is updating the credit card for domain
renewal. (Namely if we want to keep *games.* which expired a week or so
ago)

Cheers,

gentoo*games* is already on the aftermarket bid system.

Accordign to daniel, GoDaddy will hold them for a few weeks (which is
pretty damn close right now) until it tries to get a credit card that
works. So if we want to keep these domains for any reason, we should act
very soon (within days).

Very odd auction system if that's so... I don't like either
version of it...

I want to keep at least gentoo{,-}games.org. I've been trying to
get a group concensus, but there hasn't been much vocal support
or opposition.

I'd prefer to keep them all.

While I agree that they are a good demonstration of Gentoo technologies (in
this case, catalyst), I don't know that a domain is necessary to show them
off. Especially, in this case, domains that have pointed to a blank page for
some time now. If there is an awesome livecd for a game, then we should
showboat that somewhere under www.gentoo.org/ (I'm holding out for
catalyst-mame that makes a cd with your roms) :)

I just see some issues with this in the future:

- having to pay for the domains (vs just using www.gentoo.org, or
games.gentoo.org in this case)
- other groups wanting their own domain to showboat their product. Pretty
soon we could have gentoo-hardened.{com,net,org}, gentoo-embedded, etc. etc.
gets to be sticky from an infra point of view, too.

When the -games domains were purchased, their purpose was to make a seperate
entity (corporate at the time). I don't see why we should seperate Gentoo
products like that.. Give them a space in *.gentoo.org and if they need
more exposure, highlight them on the main website.

This could get sticky, we don't have much experience with money going out
yet. :) If the register that gentoo.org uses takes paypal, we can do that
easily. Could you look into that?

Thanks Nick!

I'm actually fairly ambivalent, but I think we should hang on to
whatever we can right now. If we decide to let some domains lapse, I'd
rather it be because we choose to do so, and I don't think we're ready
to make that decision right now.

I obviously have no voting powers yet, but I'd like for us to at least
renew this now and decide later if we want to keep them long term. Can
the current votable members please decide whether to do this or not? And
if we do it, how we'll do it? (It needs a CC).

Cheers,

I was the only one openly opposed to it, but given the short time we have
versus the long discussion ahead regarding it, I'll vote to keep it..

(yeah, as it stands it will need a vote of 7 to spend money on it... there
may be exceptions to that in the future, dunno.. something to keep in mind)

I'm indeed rather ambivalent towards them. I don't see the point in having
them. On the other hand it doesn't cost much so I don't see a big problem
in delaying the decision. My term ends at the 30th, but otherwise I would
be willing to be convinced of reasons to keep them structurally.

My archive states that Paul also didn't see why we would keep them.

If it is a voting you want, I vote in favor. A domain name doesn't cost that
much and there is clearly interest in it (even not in the short time frame).
