If I'd draft a copyright transfer proposal (like in previous mails, with
shared ownership and such) with resources and more legal mumbojumbo, where
would I send it to?

I mean, -core is now again a flamefest filled with developers who are hardly
aware of our actions, of our motivation and hope they can crush the
Foundation's position because they are not part of it. It's extremely
difficult to go in a positive discussion on -core for such matters.

Would I post it to -trustees or to -nfp? I don't mind using -nfp as it might
give a good idea on what developers are really interested in this and it
might prove to be easier to bring forward an idea. On -core, you need to
type fast to be able to draft a nice answer.

Wkr,
      Sven Vermeulen

I'd keep it on trustees for now. However, I'd not worry about it till
the rest of the trustees decide wether they want a copyright assignment
or not. So far we've got 2 against, 1 for. we need 7 for a decision.

Are you sure you want to do this right now? I think that the legal team
is still researching the options.

Yeah.. I'd say nfp, but it's bound to get cross-posted by someone

I'm not against doing it, but I dread the outcome. I can think of
quite a big chunk of devs we will lose by forcing a copyright signature,
which is unfortunate for them because it's just protecting their work,
but it's going to be a mess.

..the irony behind it is that all of these people put "Copyright 2005
Gentoo Foundation" on the top of their code ANYWAY. they just don't
realize that it does not hold up in court. *sigh*

I'm still interested in hearing [Redacted]'s research/position on
the fourth proposed option. I'm in favor of copyright assignment,
or at least "Owner AND/OR Foundation" enforcement capabilities,
if the fourth option isn't viable.

Option four seemed to be the best fit... Just not proven useful.
I'd foresee a lot less noise if it proved adequate.
