Hi,

my name is Simon-Nassim Kanoun. I am applying for this year's Google Summer of Code. I want to update and rewrite Porthole.

I use Gentoo for a few years now and  I want to dig deeper and learn more about Gentoo
and how to do a fairly big software project.  My past involvements with Gentoo are the following:

I did an ebuild for an unmaintained package [1] and made a pull request. 
I did some work in the wiki [2]. The biggest part here is the Chinese input [3]  page.
I did a build script and an Gentoo image for the arm board rockpro64 [4].

Besides Gentoo I am interested in Qubes OS, CLIP OS, whonix, embedded systems and the suckless project.

I am 23 years old and live in Germany. I study Computer Science and Computer and Communications Systems Engineering. My nontechnical interests and hobbies are playing the drums and overplanning cooking recipes.  Before I went to university I did a Development Volunteer Service in China as an English teacher at a middle school. This was a very valuable experience for me.

The content of my proposal is mostly finished. Right now the last things left are getting as much feedback as possible, making more beautiful design for the CV and rework my schedule . If you would like to see my current draft and give me feedback I would be more than happy to send it to you.
