Hi everyone, my name's Antonio, I'm attending an online university in
Italy (Uninettuno), studying to get my BS in Computer Engineer.
I'm not a gentoo-full-time-user yet, but I'm slowly getting there
since I love the project.
I work for Red Hat as my daily job as a Senior Software Engineer,
mainly around containers technology (I'm a Docker Core Maintainer as
well). I usually code in C/Golang and I'm comfortable writing bash and
python. I'm a Fedora Packager for various packages in there as well.
Recently (~6m now) I got in love with Rust and I started using it for
various personal projects as well as trying to use it withing my daily
job as well. I would really love to make Rust a first class citizen in
Gentoo but I'm a complete newbee about ebuilds (slowly catching up
with them actually).
My complete profile is available at https://github.com/runcom/ as well
as on Linkedin.
Forgot to mention, I'm an open source lover :)
Cheers guys!

Hi and welcome!
In line with
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/2018/Ideas this
project has some requirements:
- you have to interact with our community (that means you'll have to fix
an issue on in our bugzilla and send a pull request about it (and CC me))
- you have to interact with the rust community (that means that you
should look for easy tasks to complete for rustup and/or cargo and CC me
@lu-zero)
If you have any question or you need help please send an email here or
contact me on IRC on the gentoo-soc channel :)

does the bz need to be related to rust? unsure which bz to pick up, do
you have further pointers? :)

I've created a PR for rustup here and cc'ed you already
https://github.com/rust-lang-nursery/rustup.rs/pull/1379

There isn't a special need, but gives bonus points :)
You can prepare an ebuild of a new rust program, prepare an issue about
bugzilla and solve it yourself if you cannot find anything that
interests you.

I've created https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/7521 and opened the
related BZ with it. I'm now generating the manifest and metadata to
finish it. (I've also CC'ed you on the github issue).
Thanks for the help!
