Next step can be compiling chromiumOS for your chromebook and run it.

Also, fixing some bugs in https://bugs.gentoo.org/ can serve as proof of
your ability.

Any bug that catches your interest, especially those related to your
instance of Gentoo.

Warning: don't fix bugs just for the sake of fixing bugs.  If you don't
know which bug to fix, hold on. It implies that you need more experience
with Gentoo the OS and the community.

I think these 2 are mostly the same.  ChromiumOS does not ship a portage
by default, so you need to retain it in the build environment.

You can explore that idea.  It's up to you.

I suggest you build chromiumOS once, and see what role portage is
playing.  After that, you will be able to support your idea with facts
and real world experiences.
