hi list members,

I need to install a new server with samba 3.4.9 because we want to use
windows 7 in future.

Our old server works with 3.0.27 and I want to ask, if there are people
who had done this and what are their advice to do this.

I want to migrate without loss of the existing user data / profiles etc.

Thanks in advance - Bernd

Hi Bernd

I have installed:

  net-fs/samba
      Available versions: 3.4.9!t ~3.5.6!t [M]~4.0.0_alpha11!m {acl
addns ads aio avahi caps +client cluster cups debug doc dso examples fam
gnutls ldap ldb +netapi pam +python quota +readline +server +smbclient
smbsharemodes sqlite swat syslog threads +tools winbind}
      Installed versions: 3.4.9!t(12:18:58 17.09.2010)(client cups
netapi pam quota readline server smbclient -acl -addns -ads -aio -avahi
-caps -cluster -debug -doc -examples -fam -ldap -ldb -smbsharemodes
-swat -syslog -winbind)

There were no problems in the upgrade process but I have a simple samba
server set up. I usualy simple do a emerge -DuN world every day (after
snycing with eix-sync) and I have never lost any datas (since 2006). But
anyway I recommend you to do a backup and to migrate first on a test-server.

Cheers
Christian
