[gentoo-server] Gigabit cards

I'm looking for recommendations for the best price versus quality
gigabit ethernet cards. Particularly interested in stability as they
will be used in a production mail server and production web server.

Broadcom or Intel... not that there are really any other choices. Used 
both, never had a problem with either. Some cheap Broadcom cards can't 
do jumbo frames which you're very unlikely to use. That's pretty much it.

Alot of our servers use (built in) Broadcom's, never had any problems.

Used some very cheap D-Link DGE-528T as well, but not for the
production side. Worked fairly well however if you need a stop-gap.

I was never able to get the D-Link going at full speed.  Intel seems to be
the way to go.

I've had great luck with the Intel cards: singles, duals and quads. All
work great. The tg3 module works for everything else except the stupid
PCIExpress card (Belkin) I have for my laptop. That uses the sky2 module
and it worked once, I'm sure, maybe even twice. But for servers, the
Intels rock. You may even want to try a newer kernel's offloading
capabilities with some of the cards.

I would second (third? fourth?) that recommendation.
I'm a sysadmin at a really big Internet company, and
have dealt with lots of cards.  Intels are consistently
the least likely to cause headaches.

Just want to second this. The e1000 driver is pretty solid, and very
stable. I've never really had an issue with it.
